Hi all, was talking to my gf who said she'd like to obtain a braille display. I've seen several now with 7key keyboards above them, so that braille can be entered as well as read, even if it's not in grade 2. I'm looking for something that works with jaws and is simple to opperate because she's not a computer person. Does anyone have any ideas of what could work? The 7key keypad is not esential but it would be good if at all possible. Thx for ya help.

If you can live without the keyboard, Pretty much any one will do fine for what she's trying to do. The two displays that I have used are the Alva Sattelite and the Pac Mate 40 cell display. Neither of these has a keyboard though. If you want to control the computer from the display as much as possible, the alva is the way to go. In jaws help, they write a pretty good description on all you can do with it. Since I haven't used that one in some time, I don't recall everything you can do but I do remember you can do stuff like bring up the start menu, minimize everything to the taskbar and the like.

With the Pac mate 40, you have far less ways to control the computer but it is really good at what it does do. I've only been using the PM 40 for about a week so haven't really decided how well I like it. I can say that I don't want to throw it out the window though.

I have used a braille lite 2000 and a braille lite millenium 20. These both have braille keyboards on them and you can use the speech that is built into them. You have the option of trning off the speech, which I used, because I found the speech very annoying.
